He was born November 5, 1944, age 76, in San Bernadino, California to Forrest “Mickey” and Edwina “Teddy” Hope-Ross DuVall.
Johnnie attended school in Oklahoma and graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in drafting. He put that education to good use when he moved to Houston and went to work as a draftsman at Lockheed in NASA until he retired.
One of his favorite hobbies was playing any type of board game but especially Chess with his son John. Johnnie was an avid car enthusiast and loved to watch the NASCAR races on TV and wished he could be in the driver's seat of one of the fastest cars on the track. One of the memories of his childhood that followed him his entire life happened when he was 11 years old, and he played hooky from school. He was playing in a hayloft where he swung out on a rope (probably trying to imitate Tarzan) and consequently fell and broke his arm. The Doctor did not properly clean his wound well enough, and gangrene set in. He required surgery and skin grafts to fill in, but this left him with one arm a little shorter than the other one. This did not alter or stop him in his drafting ability that he loved to talk about to anyone who would listen, especially his sister Patricia.
Johnnie is survived by his son John Edward DuVall and wife Becky; grandson Issac DuVall of Dickinson, Texas ; adopted son Mario Gonzales of Clear Lake, Texas; He is also survived by his 100-year-old father, Mickey DuVall of Texas City, Texas; brothers, Jay DuVall of Texas City, Dean and wife Delilah of Mineola, Texas, Mickey DuVall and wife Marty of Bastrop, Texas; sisters, Patricia Kelley and husband Jack of Centerville, Texas, and Jacqueline Martinez of Texas City, Texas. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and a slew of cousins that he loved dearly. Johnnie was very proud of his grandson Issac DuVall who will graduate from Dickinson High School on this year.
