Patricia Simpson

June 23, 1958 — April 24, 2023

Patricia Simpson

Patricia Jo Simpson, known to most as Patty, was a sister, a wife, a mother, and a grandmother.  She was born in Benedict, Nebraska on June 23, 1958 and left this earth on April 23, 2023 on her 46th wedding anniversary. Her loving husband, DC said that Patty was going to make sure he would never forget their anniversary!

Memorial services will be held 11:00 A.M., Friday, April 28, 2023 at First Methodist Church in Alvin, Texas.

Patty grew up with 4 sisters and a brother in the small towns of Benedict, Bradshaw, and York, Nebraska. Life was simple back then. Patty and her siblings went to school and then went home to work on the family farm or in the household after the family moved into town. Patty worked as a Nurse’s Aide, Secretary, Truck Stop Cashier and had worked since she was 15 years old to contribute to the care for her family. She knew the value of hard work and taught the same work ethic to her sons.

Patty met her Hubby of 46 years at York College in York Nebraska at a Fraternity/Sorority banquet. Neither Patty nor DC had a date to the banquet, and a mutual friend set it up so that they sat together for the occasion. They were married on April 23, 1977 and remained best friends and soul mates for 46 years. Like all husbands, DC occasionally forgot the anniversary, but will now be able to memorialize her and remember their special day. Patty passed away on their 46th wedding anniversary.

They had their first son, David in Nebraska but moved to Alvin, Texas shortly after and had their second son, Mark. They found themselves back in Nebraska in 1990, and were encouraged to move back to Texas in 2012 with the pending birth of their first grand-baby, Sara.

Patty led a simple life into adulthood, she worked at Wal-Mart for 15 years leading up to the time she was diagnosed with ALS. You could often find her reading, playing silly games that the grandchildren roped her into, or glued to the Hallmark channel and Wheel of Fortune. ALS is a debilitating disease but that did not get Patty down! It actually opened up her inner light that was hiding within. She lost her voice within weeks of the diagnosis but that didn’t stop her from “ yelling” orders via her cell phone at DC. She was blessed to have received a grant from the Gleason Foundation for the EyeGazer device that allowed her to speak by typing the words on the screen only using her eyes. At the end of the disease, she could not move any muscle in her body except her eyes and head. DC often joked that the first phrase she said with the device to him, was “Shut up, I am talking here!”

Through all the progress of this horrible disease, Patty never lost her smile that would light up the room. Even at the last in excruciating pain, whenever the grandchildren or any other visitor came into the room, she would smile in greeting.

Patty is preceded in death by her parents, Jess Rust Jr., and Betty Morris Rust.

She leaves behind her husband of 46 years, David Craig Simpson, “DC” sons, David Simpson and wife Dana, Mark Simpson and wife, Kristin and grandchildren, Sara and Cole. Patty had 5 siblings, Terry Jensen and her husband, Lyle, Nancy Wilson and husband Dale, Roger Rust and wife, Geri, LouAnn Gewecke, Jane Bean and husband Dave, along with a host of nieces and nephews.
