Carmen Aida Melchor, 86, passed peacefully on September 19, 2025. Carmen was born in Texas City, Texas on March 23, 1939.
She cherished the family and friends who brought joy, love and laughter to her life. Her greatest blessings were her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, nephews and nieces and many friends.
Carmen was a constant source of strength, wisdom, steadfast faith and unconditional love. She dedicated her life to raising her children, supporting her family and always helping others. She never missed a wedding, funeral, graduation, dance recital, birthday party or game. Her presence was a widely recognized figure at the countless athletic events performed by her children/grandchildren, and she was an avid Astros fan.
Carmen was a retiree from the UTMB - Galveston community as a Billing Supervisor. The lives of all those she impacted during her 30-year UTMB career, and the relationships formed during those years extended far beyond the length of her long career.
Of significant importance was her faith in God. She instilled Christ values into the lives of her children and herself became an Ordained Minister to validate her beliefs. She was an integral part of the start of Mainland Community Church in Texas City, serving on the Leadership Team and Prayer Warrior Team.
She is survived by daughter, Melinda Madden, sons, Russell Melchor, Edward Melchor, Ishmael Melchor and Trey Melchor (wife, Lee Anne), grandchildren, Matthew Schexnayder (wife, Geni), Alexandra Melchor, Jerrod Madden (wife, Kiley), Nicholas Melchor (wife, Christine), Michael Melchor, Jacob Madden, Isabella Melchor and Maks Melchor, seven great grandchildren (one more on the way), many nephews and nieces, and seven siblings.
She is preceded in death by her father Ignacio Hernandez, mother Carmelina Milan Hernandez, daughter Diana Melchor Jernigan, brother Ignacio Hernandez Jr. and sister Sylvia Capetillo.
