Obituary

Charles W. Barger was born on October 4, 1946, in Effingham, Illinois, to John Newton Barger and Cora Ellen Gilbert Barger Kerr. He passed away peacefully on February 5, 2026, at his home in Dickinson, Texas.

Charles grew up in Greenup, Illinois, where he lived with his grandparents, Charles and June Barger. He shared his childhood with his two brothers, John (Rusty) Barger and Keith Allen Barger.

Charles proudly served his country in the United States Army from February 1966 to April 1972. He served during the Vietnam War and achieved the rank of Captain. His military service reflected his strong sense of duty, leadership, and commitment to others.

Outside of his military service and devotion to family, Charles spent much of his time working on cars and anything mechanical. He had a natural ability to fix, build, and understand how things worked. He also loved reading and was a lifelong learner, always curious and eager to learn something new.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Newton Barger; his mother, Cora Ellen Gilbert Barger Kerr; and his brothers, John (Rusty) Barger and Keith Allen Barger.

Charles is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Carol Graham Barger; his daughters, Tina L. Barger and Teri L. Barger Travis; and his cherished grandchildren, Addison L. Travis and William J. Travis.

Charles will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his honorable military service, his sharp mind, and the lasting impression he left on all who knew him.
