David Paul Berger, Jr. passed away suddenly on January 25, 2017, at his home in Fort Worth, Texas. David was BOI on September 5, 1950. He was a 1968 graduate of Ball High School and a 1972 graduate of Sam Houston State University, which he attended on a full baseball scholarship, and was a member of Delta Tau Delta. David was the Houston Sports Writers Association Amateur Athlete of the Year in 1970. After service in the United States Navy, David had a 35-year career in the oil industry, which took him to Europe, Africa, and Asia.
David is survived by the love of his life, Kitty Clark Berger. David fell in love at first sight and proposed to Kitty on their first date. They were married for 45 years. He is also survived by his dearly-beloved daughters and sons-in-law, Amy and Chris Foster of San Antonio, and Megan and Stephen Fahey of Fort Worth; and his much-cherished grandchildren Victoria Rose Foster, Emma James Foster, Thomas Patrick Fahey, William Joseph Fahey, and James David Fahey. Also surviving are David's parents David, Sr. and Margaret Berger; sister and brother-in-law Darlene and Bob Perryman; brother and sister-in-law Shannon and Maria Clark; and nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Waiting for him in God's Heavenly Kingdom are his father and mother-in-law, Thomas and Sue Clark, who loved him like a son.
David lived a very happy life watching his grandchildren play the sports he loved. Our hearts are breaking at his loss.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2017, from 5-7 p.m. at Emken-Linton Funeral Home, 5100 Emmett F. Lowry Expressway, Texas City, Texas 77591. The funeral services will begin at 11am on Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at the funeral home, with interment to follow at Galveston County Memorial Park in Hitchcock.
