Dolan Hamrick

Dolan Foy Hamrick, 76, of Texas City, TX went to Heaven to join with the Lord and other beloved family members on Thursday, July 6, 2023, after a 2-month long battle with multiple health issues. He was born in Texas City, TX on November 24, 1946, to parents Charlotte and Lynn Hamrick. He was the youngest of three children. He graduated High School in Texas City and served his country in the U.S. Army from 1967 until he was honorably discharged in 1969.

Dolan is preceded in death by his parents, Lynn Gusta and Charlotte Bunde Hamrick; his brother, Lynn Dayle Hamrick and sister-in-law, Ida Louise Hamrick; and his Grandson Cody Hamrick.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, Sandra, his wife of 34 years, his sister, Sherry Hamrick and his children, Stacy Hamrick Avina (David), Samantha Hamrick, Jason Hamrick (Jackie), Krista Kuykendall and Shane Thomas (Mandy).

His grandchildren who lovingly called him “PaPa DoDo” are James Rutherford (Heather), Elyse Avina, Madelyne Avina, Matthew Avina and Jessie Avina Ghiyassi (Davar), Casey Thomas, Jordan Kuykendall, Layne Leary, Kelsey Thomas, and Hunter Thomas.

His great-grandchildren are Erin Rose Avina, Elizabeth Delgado, Noah Martinez, and Dolan was the stand-in “PaPa DoDo” to Amber Hamrick, the grandchild of his deceased brother, Lynn.

He loved and was very much loved by his many nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss him a lot.

Dolan was employed and retired from Union Carbide (now Dow Chemical) after 30 years and took an early retirement so he could spend more time enjoying the things in life that were important to him.

He spent a lot of time throughout his childhood in San Saba, TX where his father was from. He loved it there and spent time with many of his cousins, aunts and uncles through the years. He purchased land in San Saba in 1988 and called it the “Hilltop Hotel” which was his “home away from home” up to his last visit in March 2023. He always loved to camp out and hunt and to spend time on his small little farm on the hill. He has taken his children, grandchildren and other family members on many trips through the years.

Dolan loved his family a lot and was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather to all of us. He loved to entertain us with his teasing and cute comments, joke gifts, and special nicknames he gave to the young ones. He was a joy to be around and would light up the room with his personality and wonderful smile. We will all miss him so much!
