Dolores Gongora

Dolores Escalante Gongora of Texas City, Texas, formerly of Galveston, passed away Thursday, December 14, 2017. Dolores was born in Galveston, Texas on March 24, 1933 to Adrian and Aurelia Escalante. A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, December 19, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary of the Miraculous Medal Church in Texas City. Burial will follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Park in Hitchcock under the direction of Emken - Linton Funeral Home in Texas City. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home Monday, December 18, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., where a rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vicente Romo Gongora, her parents, and her sisters Maria Escalante Klock and Anna Cleta Escalante Patino and son-in-law Thomas L. Mahoney, Jr.. Survivors include her daughters Sylvia Gongora (Bob Doney) of Austin, Texas and JoAnn Gongora Mahoney of Texas City, Texas. She also leaves behind her grandchildren Trey Salinas (Rhonda Toming) of Austin, Andrea King (Joe), of Texas City and Kimberly Faust (George) of Texas City; great grandchildren Lyndsey Harvey (Kelly Phillips), Riley Cooper, Ryne Cooper, and Jagger King, of Texas City; Tripp Halstead of Santa Fe; Jake and Sarah Salinas of Austin; and great-great granddaughter, Kaileigh Phillips of Texas City. She also leaves behind numerous nephews and nieces and other relatives and friends.
While in high school, Dolores played softball for the Sons of Benito Juarez (SBJ) softball team. So, it was only natural that her daughters, granddaughters and great granddaughters would follow in her footsteps playing softball. Dolores was affectionately known as "MawMaw" by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as all of the softball players who played with her granddaughters, Andrea and Kimberly and great granddaughter Lyndsey. Dolores worked as an Executive Assistant most of her life for several companies. Her last position was with Union Carbide. All of her former employers spoke very highly of her and considered her one of the best Executive Assistants they ever had.
Pallbearers are Trey and Jake Salinas, Riley and Ryne Cooper, Joe King and George Faust. Honorary Pallbearer, Jagger King.
