Dorothy Boyd

Dorothy Lee Wilson Boyd was born to Nannie Bell Willhouse and Richard (Uncle Dick) Wilson Sr. in Texas City, Texas on January 17, 1924 and died at a hospital in South Harris County on August 4, 2017 after suffering a massive stroke at home on July 26, 2017.
Growing up in Texas City, she was involved in a close family life, a Methodist up bringing as well as family fishing trips to the Dike. Dorothy Lee graduated from Wolvin (TCHS) high school in May of 1942. She worked at various jobs including the old Pan American Refinery as part of the WWII war effort until she married a B-17 pilot, T. Bee Boyd in November of 1944 and this union was blessed with a son in December of 1945. After surviving the 1947 Blast, she went to work for Monsanto Co, help rebuild the plant after the Blast then stayed for retirement.
Dorothy worked in and was an officer in the National Secretaries Association where she attended continuing education classes and took part in presentations to the local schools and business seminars which lead to her also working as a volunteer in B&PW. She also worked in Texas City Little league as a score book keeper, transported Boys Scouts from the Methodist church troop to Camp Mohawk and Camp Karakawa (that included emergency return trips when the San Bernard River over flowed its banks during heavy rains) and taught youth Sunday school. In her spare time, she sewed for the family, especially for her nieces and their children. Upon her retirement from Monsanto, Dorothy took on a second career in the travel industry where she took many "fam" trips to Mexico, Canada and Europe to better serve her clients. In her later years, she enjoyed going to or just watching the Astros on TV, liked the Texans but oh did those Oilers and Bum Phillips have a special place in her heart. She also enjoyed the monthly luncheons with the 'girls" that she worked with thru the years as well as the many friends in 55 and Better at the Clear Lake Methodist Church. In her senior years, she refused to be a victim and maintained her NRA and TSRA membership.

Her parents, her husband, some close family and many friends preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, TB Boyd of Romayor, her grandchildren, Tarrant, Thomas and Elisa, her younger brother Ernest Wilson USAF retired, her brother in law BH Boyd, her many nieces, nephews and many friends with special mention to Olga Ballis and Vickie Petree.
Final arrangements are to be handled by Emken-Linton Funeral Home with graveside services only at 10:00 AM on Saturday August 12, 2017 at Galveston Memorial Park 7301 Memorial Street, Hitchcock, Texas 77563, (409) 986- 7409.
