Obituary

Dorothy Nell (Derrick) Groves, 92, of Texas City, Texas, passed from this life on July 31, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born November 1, 1933, in Jefferson, Texas, to Easby and Josie Derrick.

Dorothy dedicated her life to creating a warm and loving home for her husband of 65 years, Owen, and their children. Her greatest achievement was her large, close-knit family, who brought her the utmost joy. As a mother of five, grandmother of eleven, and great-grandmother of ten, Dorothy was the heart of the family.

Dorothy will be remembered for her kindness, quiet strength, soft laughter, and pound cake. Her meatloaf and breakfast burritos will continue to be a staple at the family holiday celebrations. She will be deeply missed.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Easby and Josie Derrick; husband, Owen Groves; brothers, James and Bill Derrick; granddaughter, Baby Girl Clark; and numerous brother and sister-in-laws.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, daughters, Debbie Thompson (Danny), Linda Clark (James), Kim McDonald (Reagan); sons, Mike Groves and David Groves; grandchildren, Mandy Paul (Alan), Kelli Mistretta, Gerald Clark (Katie), Kassi Anderson (John Jeane), Derek Clark, Ashley Groves, Taylor Guillen (Ricky), Evan Groves (Haley), Zachary McDonald, Jacob McDonald (Cindy), and Nicholas "Peewee" McDonald (Macie); great-grandchildren, Nathan McWhirter, Sterling and Asher Mistretta, Mia and Eliana Guillen, Owen and Evie Clark, Hazel and Harrison Groves, and Kellan Paul; sister-in-law, Louise Derrick; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends and loved ones for a visitation on Monday, August 3, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church, 1604 9th Avenue North, Texas City, Texas. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m., with Deacon Steve Mistretta officiating. Interment will follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Park, 10708 Highway 6, Santa Fe, Texas.

Dorothy loved bright colors, so feel free to wear something colorful in her honor.
