Duane Barger

Duane Earl Barger, 91, of Texas City, passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2017.

Duane Barger was born September 16, 1926 in Texas City. He married the love of his life Shelia Rose Alford on October 20, 1945. He was a graduate of Central High School in Texas City, Veteran of the United States Navy and worked for Pan American - American Oil - Amoco for 40 years. He retired as a Superintendent of Oil Movements. He accepted Christ at the age of thirteen at First Baptist Church in Texas City and he lived life accordingly. Duane was a Deacon of First Baptist Church for 56 years. He was in charge of maintenance and a chairman for 50 years at the church.

He is preceded in death by parents, Warren Marshall Barger and Grace Lucille Barger; infant sister Delores and grandson, Shay Barger.

Survivors include by his wife, Shelia Barger of Dickinson; sons, Darrell Barger and wife Jessica of Houston, James Barger and wife Pat of Texas City; seven grandchildren, one great grandson and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Emken-Linton Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Galveston Memorial Park. Visitation will be 1:00 - 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City.

Pallbearers are Rick Day, Danny Day, David Day, Justin Day, Joel Day and Keith Locke.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The First Baptist Church of Texas City building fund.
