Starts at 12:00 pm (Central time)
Earl Mewis passed away peacefully on May 21, 2026, in League City at the age of 89.
Earl was born on June 29, 1936, in Bellville to Roman and Ardona Mewis. As a child, he moved with his family to Texas City, where he was raised and later graduated from Texas City High School. Following graduation, Earl proudly served his country in the United States Army.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents, Roman and Ardona Mewis; his brother, Harry Mewis, and sister-in-law Delores Mewis; and his sisters, Evelyn Jolly and Joyce Beard.
He is survived by his sister, Marcine Benoit; daughters, Teresa Hart and Debra Touchstone; and the nieces and nephews he loved as his own: Gerald (Patty) Jolly, Brian (Melani) Jolly, Jeff (Lisa) Beard, Richie (Lindsay) Beard, Lance Howeth (Denee'), Brenda (Clay) Ramlow, Kim Benoit, Kristi Stauffer, and Joni Howeth. He also leaves behind many great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.
Family was everything to Earl. He took immense pride in being a son, brother, father, and uncle. He loved deeply and unconditionally and was known for his generosity, always wanting to help the people he cared about. Earl also had a wonderful sense of humor and loved making people laugh.
He faithfully supported his nieces and nephews throughout their lives, spending countless hours at baseball and softball fields, basketball courts, graduations, and family events cheering them on.
Earl dearly loved his mother and would have done anything for her, making it a priority to visit her every weekend. He was a gifted storyteller who loved sharing memories of his younger days and reminiscing about time spent with his mother, brothers, and sisters. He was also a loyal fan of the Houston Astros.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff and residents at The Delaney at South Shore for loving Earl like family during the last several years, especially his dear friends Pauline Vallejo and Jimmy Rosas, who always made sure he never missed a poker game.
A graveside service will be held at noon on May 26, 2026, at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
