Eugene Lentz

Gene was born on March 19, 1946, in St. Louis, Missouri to parents, Howard and Linnie (Howard) Lentz. He grew up with older brother, Howard, and older sister, Barbara (Molzahn). Gene graduated from Southwest High School in 1964, where he was a member of the rifle and bowling teams. Gene competed in ACA Fly and Bait Casting tournaments across the country as a teenager and adult, where he won many competitions, including a national record for accuracy in fly casting. Gene's love of fishing and outdoors continues with his daughter, son, and grandsons.

Gene attended Washington University, where he studied accounting. After a career change, he started as a lineman for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1969. On April 3, 1971, he married his wife, Alice (Patrick), and moved to Texas in 1974. In 1976, they moved to Texas City, where they raised their children, Alison and Jonathan, and lived until his passing. Gene was very proud of his children and the adults they became.

After 31 years, he retired from Southwestern Bell as a manager in 2000. Bored with retirement, he helped customers with humor and a smile for 18 years at The Home Depot. Throughout his life, he enjoyed fishing, gardening, casino trips, traveling throughout the US, watching the Houston Astros and NASCAR, and spending time with his family, and most importantly, his grandsons.

He was preceded in death by parents Howard and Linnie (Howard) Lentz, brother Howard, sister Barbara (Molzahn), and grandson Rylan Lentz.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 50 years, Alice of Texas City; daughter, Alison Larance and husband Chris of Aledo, Texas; son, Jonathan and wife Karianne, and grandsons, Logan, Ethan, and Dylan of Miramar, Florida; and brothers-in-law, Michael Patrick and Tim Patrick of St. Louis, Missouri. Numerous cherished friends, nieces, and nephews also survive him.
