Herbert Rilat

Herbert Allen Rilat, 85, of Texas City, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2016 in Texas City, Texas.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at Emken-Linton Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock, Texas. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Monday, August 22, 2016 at the funeral home.

Mr. Rilat was born October 8, 1930 in Hammond, Indiana. He moved to Texas City in 1934 as a small child. He was a La Marque High School Graduate in 1948. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He married Mary Ann Mitchell in 1953. He retired as a Machinist from Monsanto/Sterling Chemicals. He was active in coaching baseball for many years at Bobby Beach Stadium, La Marque Little League and Jr. Teenage Pony Colt League. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was Captain of Mar II Shrimp Boat and shrimped in Galveston Bay area for many years. He enjoyed watching his boys race and was an avid Astros fan.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Elsie Rilat; and the mother of his children Mary Ann Rilat.

Survivors include his sons, Greg Rilat and wife Dorothy, Lee Rilat and wife Brenda; daughter, AnnJeanette Rilat, all of Texas City, Texas; his brother, Bill Rilat of Sattler, Texas; grandchildren, Travis Rilat and wife Mary Anna of Forney, Texas, Ashley Nixon and husband Truman of Dickinson, Texas, Shane Rilat and wife Megan of El Paso, Texas, Melissa Hirn and husband Bryan of League City, Texas, Danielle Allgood and husband Malcolm of Texas City, Texas, Brett Schutz of San Antonio, Texas, Breanne Scott and husband Don of League City, Texas, and Adam Schutz and wife Ashley of San Antonio, Texas; twenty great grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Travis Rilat, Shane Rilat, Brett Schutz, Adam Schutz, Bradley Rilat and Graham Nixon.
