James “Jim” Edward Blankenship, of Texas City, Texas passed from this life on Sunday, August 25, 2024, to be with his heavenly Father, at the age of 95.
He was born on September 28, 1928, in Charleston, West Virginia, the seventh of seven sons. At the age of 17 while in the Army he met the love of his life, Dorothy Gosch. They were married for 78 years and had one son, Clifford James Blankenship, who preceded them in death in 2018.
His proudest gift was his two grandsons Troy B. (Stacy) and Bradley B. Blankenship. Then God blessed him with three beautiful great grandchildren Tyler, Trevor and Sage. He was well known in the Texas City and Santa Fe area for over 82 years for cutting hair and was well known for his talented skills as a Barber, giving an awesome flat top.
Jim was a man with many names Jim, James, Blank and his proudest, was Paw Paw or Papa. When he wasn’t behind the barber chair you could find him fishing off the Texas City Dike or Lake Livingston. He loved teaching his grandsons how to fish and also, how to hunt for squirrels and deer. Blank will be missed by many friends, nieces, nephews and of course his family. Also, he said; “the daughter he never had,” Dana and her husband Jimmy Bethune, who would at times cook meals for him.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 3, 2024, in the chapel of Emken-Linton Funeral Home, with funeral services to follow at 6:00 p.m., with Pastor Cindy Riddick officiating. Graveside services with full military honors will be on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at 2:15 p.m. at Houston National Cemetery in Houston, Texas.
Jim and Dorothy were charter members of St. John’s Methodist Church in Texas City. We want to thank his wonderful caregiver from the VA, Sandra.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. John’s Methodist Church in Texas City.
