James "Nub" Newburn Selman, 88, of Texas City, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2025, at HCA Mainland Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 2, 2026, with a visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City. Burial will follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Park.
James was born on June 29, 1937, in Jacksonville, Texas, to James Leonard Selman and Eunice Knox Selman. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1957 to 1960.
James was deeply involved in his community and generously gave his time as a volunteer at HRA, also known as Independence Village, where he helped raise funds for the building through many efforts, including playing Santa Claus each Christmas, barbecuing, and coordinating yard sales. In his free time, James enjoyed bowling, mowing grass, and gardening.
He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Texas City, where he was born again on March 6, 1983, under the ministry of Pastor Dwayne Martin.
James was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Billy Don Selman, Sr.; his sisters, Maurice Harvard and Leonardean Tomlin; and the mother of his children, Shirley.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Laura W. Selman; his sons, James Aarron Selman and Gary Don Selman; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many cherished friends.
Pallbearers will be Ron Domel, James Barger, Bryan Husky, Rick Mitchell, Paul Pinkston, and Laura Pinkston, with Gary Allred serving as an honorary pallbearer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Texas City.
