Jerry Lynn Mize (Myers) Barber, 84, of Texas City, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2026, in League City, Texas, surrounded by her loving family.

Jerry was born in Texas City on July 8, 1942, to Bentley “Pete” and Mozelle Mize and was a lifelong resident of the community she loved. She was a child survivor of the Texas City Disaster. After graduating from Texas City High School in 1960, Jerry attended Sam Houston State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry.

On August 8, 1964, Jerry married her college sweetheart, Bryan B. Myers, who was also a lifelong resident of Texas City. Following their marriage, Jerry returned home and began her doctoral studies in Biochemistry at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston. She went on to build a distinguished career at UTMB in the fields of Clinical Chemistry and Toxicology, where she dedicated many years of service before retiring in January 2000.

After Bryan’s passing in 2003, Jerry found love again in 2006 with Roy Barber. The two shared a loving marriage until Roy’s passing in 2022.

Outside of her professional career, Jerry enjoyed a rich and fulfilling life. She was an avid gardener, with a particular passion for roses. She inherited her green thumb from her father and took great pride in maintaining a vegetable garden for much of her life. Jerry also had a love for travel, visiting destinations throughout the United States and abroad. Among her favorite places was the Cayman Islands.

During her retirement, Jerry remained active in her faith and community, becoming a devoted member of both Grace United Methodist Church and Northside Baptist Church.

Jerry was preceded in death by her parents, Bentley “Pete” and Mozelle Mize; her first husband, Bryan B. Myers; and her second husband, Roy Barber.

She is survived by her sister, Janie (Tommy); her daughter, Dana (Jeff); her son, David; and her beloved grandson, Jasper.

Jerry will be remembered for her intelligence, resilience, devotion to family, love of nature and gardening, and the many lives she touched throughout her remarkable life. Her memory will remain a lasting blessing to all who knew and loved her.
