Jesus P. Romero Jr., 78, of Texas City, Texas, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2025, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Visitation and Funeral Services will be held on December 30, 2025, at Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City. The family will gather at 11:00 a.m., followed by visitation with friends and extended family at 12:00 p.m. Services will begin at 1:00 p.m. The family will then gather at 3:00 p.m. at the VFW Hall in Dickinson for a celebration of life and fellowship.
Jesus was born on February 4, 1947, in Mathis, Texas, to Petra Padron and Jesus Romero Sr. As a young man, he dreamed of being a cowboy but took a different path, eventually discovering his passion for meat cutting. He worked at Kroger for over 20 years, a job he loved, and happily retired from.
Jesus was a devoted husband and father. His family meant everything to him, and he would always go above and beyond to help anyone in need. Though he was known for his hot temper, he was also quick to show love, often following a stern word with a warm embrace. He had a special talent for telling corny jokes—though most people didn’t laugh, he always did. His sense of humor was one of the many ways he brought joy to those around him.
An avid sports fan, Jesus enjoyed watching baseball with his favorite snack—double bubble gum and peanuts. He also loved watching football, frequently cheering for a different team unless it was his favorite players, "Mahomey" (Patrick Mahomes) or, in earlier years, "Brady" (Tom Brady).
After retiring from meat cutting, Jesus found joy in caring for his chickens and a few ducks—his true passion during his later years.
Jesus is preceded in death by his father, Jesus Romero Sr.; mother, Petra Padron Romero; daughters Irene Romero, Rachel Romero, Mary Ellen Romero, Josephine “Baby Josie” Romero; sons Edward “Juice” Romero, Ramiro Romero Sr.; and granddaughter Samantha “Mimi” Romero.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Josephine “Momo” Romero; his brother, Carlos “Chale” Romero; sisters Carolina Figueroa, Ciria Gonzales, Paula Rodriguez, Santos Romero, San Juanita Reaves, Jovita Herrion; sons Jesse “Tad” Romero, Joey Romero, Carlos Romero; and grandchildren Meray Perez, Rachel Romero, Edward “Pepito” Romero, Ramiro “Boo” Romero Jr., Lilly Romero, Carlos “CJ” Romero Jr., Ariana Romero, Elias Romero; great grandchildren Kristina Ayala, Kaiden Perez, Iyana Romero, Amaiya Perez, Abrielle Garcia, Isabella Romero, Addi Romero, Carson Sumlin, Chloe Villarreal, Stevie Romero, Mazzy Romero, Cassian Sumlin, Despie Romero, Damon Barragan, Carlos Romero III, Elly Romero, Emilia Barragan and many more grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Carlos Romero, Freddy Gonzales, Edward “Pepito” Romero, Ramiro “Boo” Romero Jr., Carlos “CJ” Romero Jr., and Kaiden Perez.
