John R Diaz, 80, of Texas City, suddenly passed away Friday, December 26, 2025, in Austin.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at St. Mary of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church in Texas City. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. with a Devine Mercy at 6:30 P.M. on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City. Interment will follow at Galveston Memorial Park.

John was born on June 17, 1945, in Texas City. He was a retired Petroleum Operator at Marathon Petroleum in Texas City and recently worked as a Certified Automotive State Inspector at The G Spot in Texas City. He loved to take daily rides to the Dike, landscape on his riding lawnmower tractors and take drives to San Antonio to visit family.

John is preceded in death by his parents George and Mary Diaz, siblings Louis, Bubba, Fred, and Edward Diaz.

Survivors include his sister, Ms. Marilyn Boyle of Texas City; daughter, Tina Downen and husband Mike of League City, TX; his son, John Diaz Jr. and wife Kristina; grandchildren, Johnathon and Katalina Diaz of San Antonio, TX; and his long time companion, Suzanne Vasquez of Texas City, TX.

Pallbearers are Johnathon Diaz, Mike Downen, Louis Diaz Jr., Gregory Diaz, Edward Garcia, and Harry Provost.

There will be a reception at the Ponzini Hall in Texas City immediately after the burial.

Those wishing to provide food for the reception may drop it off at Ponzini Hall located at 1604 9th Ave. N, Texas City, TX 77590 (behind St. Mary’s Church).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
