Joy was born on November 24, 1962 in Texas City, Texas to John and Alice Odom. She passed away June 14, 2026 surrounded by loved ones.
Joy is survived by her sons, Kyle and Hunter; her sisters, Cherry (Gary) Watkins, Trudy O'Balle; brother, Lex Odom; other family, "brother-in-law" Gil O'Balle; nieces and nephews, Amanda (Jason) Miranda (children, Valan Miranda and Coley Lankford), Cole O'Balle (children, Everett and Wesley), Robyn (Jacob) Weeks, Johnny Odom, Jeff Odom (child, Mia), Jennifer (Chris) McCarty (child, Marcus Ruiz) along with numerous cousins and friends that became family to her.
Joy graduated from La Marque High School in 1981 and often referred to herself as the "band nerd". She played the flute and piccolo in the symphonic band. She also was in the jazz band and as one friend said" They needed a saxophone player and Joy stepped up and said, 'I can do that' and that's just what she did". She attended College of the Mainland for two years studying business before entering the workforce. She had many jobs over the years including Kings Jewelry, Texas First Bank, Bailey Insurance, Dr. Donald Bright, Diamond Jims and her last position at VFW in Dickinson.
In 1987 she married Jesse "Chris" Ciabattoni and had their three children, Kelsey, Kyle and Hunter. She was known for her smiling face and caring heart. She enjoyed cooking, bowling and NASCAR. She loved traveling to the Guadalupe River and the races at The Texas Motor Speedway with friends.
The family would like to give special thanks for all the support as they navigate the loss of Joy: their presence, phone calls, financial assistance and prayers are greatly appreciated. Extended thanks to Mainland Center Hospital for the care and compassion Joy received.
