IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Julia Voncile
Stone
March 22, 1928 – January 11, 2026
Julia Voncile Stone went to be with her Lord Sunday, January 11, 2026 at Mainland Center Hospital, just a couple of months shy of turning 98 years old. Born at home in rural southern Alabama, Voncile (as most knew her) was the third oldest of seven children. She was a good student in school, but didn't finish high school because she always had to start every school year 2 weeks behind because of the timing of the crops coming in. She met her husband Lennon through a coworker at the shirt factory she worked at in Enterprise, Alabama. They were married on January 19, 1955 and moved to Michigan to follow his work, which eventually brought them to Texas City, where he worked as a sheet metal worker. After moving so much for jobs, Voncile was happy to settle down in a house in Texas City and hoped to never move again (which she didn't). After many years of marriage, the Lord finally blessed them with their only child, Sandra. Voncile was a very good housewife and mother. She doted over both Lennon and Sandra. She attended all the PTA meetings and was a chaperone for all the school field trips.
For decades she and Lennon tended a backyard garden and she would can or freeze all the extra food they couldn't eat. Homemade jelly, frozen blackberries for cobblers and pies, and homemade pickles were just a few of the things the Stones would enjoy. As they got older, Lennon would make the garden smaller and smaller and eventually a couple of years after his passing, Voncile and Sandra gave up fighting the squirrels and birds for the tomatoes and the berries and let the garden go back to grass. Voncile admitted Lennon was the better farmer.
Voncile is survived by her only daughter, Sandra Klementich and son-in-law Frank; younger brother, Kenneth Harrison, and younger sister, Shirley Sanders, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends beginning at noon Monday, January 19, 2026 (would have been her wedding anniversary) at Emken-Linton in Texas City. The celebration of life will follow there at 1:00 p.m., officiated by Dennis Johns, then the procession to the graveside at Forest Park East arriving at 2:30 p.m.
The family would like to thank Dr. Daniel Piazza, Dr. Jose Cantu, and Dr. Cantu's nurse Kristie for their excellent care of Voncile for all these years.
The family is also honored to have as pallbearers Alan Lee, Corky Velasco, Jerry Williams, Ben Breedlove, and Monroe Copeland, all fellow members of First Baptist Church Texas City.
