Lena M. Placencia

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Lena M. Placencia, a loving wife, devoted mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother.

Surrounded by her family, she left peacefully while sleeping. More importantly, while holding the hand of the love of her life for over 65 years, Edward Placencia, who has never left her side.

Lena was born on January 13, 1939, in Gillman Colorado to William & Lucy Trujillo. Upon her father's passing they moved to Superior Arizona in 1957 with her daughter, mother, and 2 sisters.

Lena met and married Edward in 1959, and together they made their home in Superior. They raised 3 daughters, Louene Casteneda (Richard), Arlene Hernandez (Richard), and Robin Sifuentes (Mike).

In 2007, she and Edward moved to Texas City, Texas, but she spent many weekends driving to Louisiana, where she enjoyed visiting their casinos.

She leaves behind 4 grandchildren, Geresa Lopez (Eli), Edward Hernandez (Jennifer), Alex Castaneda (Julia), and Vanessa Hernandez (Trey); 10 great-grandchildren, Zoe and Heaven Lopez, Phoenix, Joaquin, and Edward Ray Hernandez, Alyssa, Richard, Gabrial and Lorenzo Castaneda, and Richard Krenz IV.

Lena and Edward co-founded the original St. Francis Catholic Church annual fiestas since 1976 in Superior. They devoted many years to organizing, planning, and fundraising that made the Fiesta an annual huge success.

She worked and cared for the elderly. If she found a need, she jumped in with two feet and a loving heart. She was always up for the challenge.

Lena loved cooking, crafting, holiday planning, and was highly skilled with crocheting and home décor. She kept an immaculate home and had a knack for all beautiful things.

Most of all, she loved her family, and she instilled in her daughters’ strong values and perseverance. Love and Faith in God were most important in her household.

She is proceeded in death by her father, William Trujillo; mother, Lucy Ortega; brother, Thomas Montoya; and sister, Alice Johnson.

She will be sadly missed and will remain forever in our hearts until we meet again.
