Moses Lopez Jr., 77, of Hitchcock, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by his siblings on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.
Moses was born on January 21, 1949, in Galveston, Texas, to Lillie O. Lopez and Moses Lopez Sr who preceded him in death. He is survived by his brothers, Robert Lopez Sr and Lalo Ojeda; his sisters, Beatrice Lopez and Rose Thurman; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and many cherished friends who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.
Moses proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. During his honorable military service, he was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal in recognition of his service to the nation.
Following his military service, Moses began his career at Todd Shipyards in Galveston, Texas, where he worked for many years before later joining Kroger, serving on the night crew until his retirement. He was known as a hardworking, dependable man who took great pride in his work and in caring for those around him.
Outside of work, Moses found joy in traveling, watching sports, and spending quality time with his family and friends. He cherished family gatherings, enjoyed cheering on his favorite teams, and never missed an opportunity to create lasting memories with the people he loved. His quiet strength, kind heart, unwavering loyalty, and gentle spirit touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday prior to the service. A luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m. prior to the service.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. at Emken-Linton Funeral Home, 5100 Emmett F. Lowry Expressway, Texas City, Texas. Burial will follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Cemetery in Hitchcock.
The Lopez family extends their sincere gratitude for the many prayers, expressions of sympathy, and acts of kindness shown during this difficult time. Moses will be remembered with love, gratitude, and respect for his faithful service to his country, his dedication to his work, and the kindness he shared with everyone who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
