Panagiotis "Pete" Pontikas, 85, of Texas City, passed away peacefully at his home Monday, July 17, 2017, in Texas City, Texas.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 21, 2017, officiated by Father Stelios Sitaras, at The Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 714 19th street in Galveston, Texas. Burial will follow at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 20, 2017, with a Trisagion service at 7:00 p.m., at Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City.

Pete was born July 3, 1932, in Piraeus, Greece. He was a ship captain in the Greek Merchant Marines for many years before immigrating to the United States in 1964. One of Pete's proudest moments was when he became a citizen of the United States in 1967. Pete was very thankful and appreciative of the opportunities this country afforded him. Pete married his first wife, Mae, and they opened Mae's Restaurants in several locations throughout Galveston County. Pete and Mae lived many wonderful years together before her passing. Pete had an entrepreneurial spirit and opened many enterprises in Texas City, including Mae's Package Store, Mae's Club and Mae's Apartments. Pete married his second wife, Kathy, during this time, and they had many wonderful years together until she passed.

Pete is preceded in death by his parents, Aristidis and Maroulia Pontikas; his brother, Michael Pontikas; his first wife, Mae; and his second wife, Kathy.

Survivors include his brother John Pontikas and wife, Jerry, of Texas City, Texas; his sisters Kalliroe Glyptis, Margarita Charitou and Anastasia Kallia of Piraeus, Greece; his beloved dog, Kalli; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews of Texas and Greece.

Honored to serve as casket bearers during his services are John Pontikas, Rodney Warfford, Bill Ballis, Tommy Choate, Steven Thompson and Michael Payne.


In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Pete's honor to the charity of your choice.
