Peter (Pete) Albert Becnel Sr.

Peter A. Becnel, Sr. passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2024, in his home in Texas City, TX.

The youngest of ten children, Pete was born on March 8, 1958, in New Orleans, LA. Pete graduated from Lamar University with a degree in Chemical Engineering and enjoyed a rewarding career as a chemical engineer. An accomplished bowyer and talented musician, Pete loved woodworking and expressed his creativity by handcrafting long bows and playing his guitars. A lifelong lover of all animals, you could frequently find him in the company of a rescued dog. Pete was a devout member of St. Mary of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Helen Becnel. He is survived by his wife of forty years, Lynn Becnel; his children, Melissa Vaughan, Peter Becnel Jr., Melanie Valle, MaryKatelyn Becnel; his five grandchildren, Isaac Becnel, Avery Vaughan, Oliver Vaughan, Charlotte Vaughan, Nina Valle; and his many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his nine siblings, Lawrence Becnel, Helen Burchfield, Kitty Brown, Tim Becnel, David Becnel, Jeanie Austin, Priss Chauvin, John Becnel, and Joe Becnel.

A visitation will be held at St. Mary of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church on Friday, February 2, 2024, from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m., with a Rosary to follow. A Memorial Mass celebrating Pete’s life will be at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Dickinson, with a reception to follow in the Ponzini Hall at St. Mary of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Child Mind Institute, the Sponsor-A-Heart Adoption Fund Galveston County, or a charity of your choice.
