Richard Caldwell Smith, 87, of Texas City, went to his heavenly home, surrounded by his family on Wednesday, May 24, 2017.
Richard Smith was born August 26, 1929 in Missouri. He came to Texas City when he was just three years old. Richard graduated from Texas City High School in 1947 and then went on to graduate from North Texas State. He loved participating and watching all sports, especially golf. Richard was a fan of the Astros, Oilers, Texans, Rockets and the Longhorns. His love of life was evident through the many social activities with their numerous friends, watching westerns, gardening and dancing with his beloved wife.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Gladys Smith and brother, Theodore Smith.
Survivors include his devoted wife, Joyce Smith of Texas City, daughter, Debbie Skerhut (Ulrich), grandchildren, Veronica Wolfe (Mark) and Anthony Skerhut and great grandson, Charles Wolfe all of San Antonio as well as numerous nieces and cousins.
The family would like to thank his caregivers, Emma Stanley, Freda Bell, Mary Ann Foster, Sherrill Fontenot, Meadow Glen PCH and their staff as well as Providence Hospice.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 27, 2017 at Emken-Linton Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Park. Visitation will be 5:00 -7 :00 p.m., Friday, May 26, 2017 at Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City, Texas.
Pallbearers are Anthony Skerhut, Don Roark, Norman Anderson, Rick Kresig, Andy Johnson, Ray Voss and Honorary Pallbearers Arnold Zander, John Wood, Ulrich Skerhut, Mark Wolfe
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or a charity of your choice.
