Royall Stiernberg Jr.

Cam Stiernberg, 88, a longtime resident of Texas City, passed away Thursday, September 8, 2011, at University Place, Houston. He was born September 28, 1922 in Houston, Texas to R. C. and Nell Davis Stiernberg of Huntsville, Texas.

Cam will forever be in the hearts and minds of his family and many friends, including his wife of 62 years, Jan Stiernberg his two sons, R. Cam Stiernberg III and wife, Susan, and Charles M. Stiernberg and wife, Pattie his daughter Janet Dickey and husband Daryl Dickey grandchildren: Charles, William, and James Stiernberg, Ann Stiernberg McAlister, and Sarah Dickey. He is survived by his brother, Douglas and wife Sally Stiernberg of Texas City.

Cam spent his early years in Huntsville, Texas where he attended Huntsville High School and Sam Houston State University, then leaving for Galveston, Texas, where he attended the University of Texas College of Medicine. There he gained a medical degree with a specialty in Eye, Ear, Nose, and Throat. After graduation from medical school, he entered the Navy in 1945 as a Lieutenant J.G., serving in the Pacific until the end of World War II.

Cam moved his family to Texas City in 1952 where he began a career as a physician spanning more than 40 years. He retired from his medical practice in 1987, and then began a position as Associate Professor of Otolaryngology and Ophthalmology at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. He was proud of his UT Alma Mater.

Cam was active in the community of Texas City for many years, including time spent on the boards of Mainland Bank and the Galveston County Medical Society. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Cam was an avid sportsman, spending many weekends in South Texas as a proud member of the Squeaky Windmill Hunting Club. He hunted and played golf with many close friends in Texas City.

A gathering of family and friends will be held 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday evening, September 9, 2011, at EmkenLinton Funeral Home in Texas City. A Memorial Service will be held at the funeral home at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 10.
