Tommy Leo “Bud” Ferguson

Captain Papa Bud, age 70, of Texas City, left this world Friday, March 1, 2024, at his residence in Texas City.

Bud Ferguson was born on March 30, 1953, to Zada Broome Ferguson and Leo Ferguson in Texas City, Texas. He retired from BP after close to 35 years.

Bud’s greatest passion was his love for duck hunting and saltwater fishing. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son, grandkids and his best buddy, Brendan Moore. Bud also had the greatest friends to hunt and fish with. They called him their “Captain.” He loved watching the Astros and was an amazing coach himself. He coached many boys from Little League to American Legion baseball that stayed in touch with him throughout the years. Bud’s greatest legacy was being a mentor to many young boys not only in baseball, but also in teaching them to have an abiding love for nature and become responsible young men. His influence will forever be a touchstone for these men and his influence will be felt for generations. When Richard Ziegelmeyer’s father, Bubba, died, Bud didn’t hesitate to step in and guide Richard through his teenage years as a father would. However, Bud’s life-long love was his son, Louis. Good fathers raise good men and Louis is a testament to his father’s love and care.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Zada Ferguson, and former wife, LuAnn Ziegelmeyer Ferguson.

He is survived by his son, Louis Ferguson and wife Bonnie Gabriel Ferguson of Woodville, Texas; grandchildren Anthony Knight, Alexis Ferguson, and Lane Ferguson; brother, Jimmy Ferguson and wife Denice; and long-time girlfriend, Gigi McCoy, and her sons, Chris McAdams and wife Kia, Mac McAdams and wife Kat; and a number of nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The family invites you to a Celebration of Life at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas Citwith a visitation to begin at 12:00 p.m.
