Joseph Schoppe

On Monday, January 23, 2023 Joseph Friedrich Schoppe passed into the Kingdom of Heaven, greeted lovingly by his mother and father, and his Savior.

Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, February 3, 2023, with Funeral Services to follow at 7:00 p.m., Friday, February 3, 2023. at Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City.

Joe Fred, as his friends affectionately called him, was born in College Station, TX on December 20, 1957 to Alca Lucille and Raymond James Schoppe. Joe was the youngest of 4 beautiful, rambunctious, adventurous children. They were always busy discovering their world, and their mother handled it so very gracefully. Joe and his mother were extremely close; she was his biggest supporter through his childhood, and into his early twenties, when he moved to Texas City and met his bride, Debbi.

Joe married Debbi on August 8, 1981. He worked at Union Carbide as an operator to support his growing family.

He loved spending his free time out on his family property in Burleson County, lovingly referred to as “The Farm,” fishing, hunting, building campfires, and popping fireworks.

Joe retired from Dow (which had previously purchased Union Carbide) in 2012. He was able to be home more often to be the amazing Pappy to his grandchildren, who thought the world of him. He smiled so much in his role as Pappy; being a grandfather made him happy.

Joe is survived in death by his wife, Debbi; children, Joey Suzanne, Jamie Kathleen, and Sam Friedrich; his grandchildren, Daisy Jean, James Donovan, Levi Friedrich, Violet Lucille, and Iris Elizabeth; siblings, Ray (his mentor), Marian (his fishing buddy), Paul (his confidant), Karen (his fireside chat buddy), Terry (the sister he loved) and Don.
