Kelly Stinson

Kelly Jay Stinson, of Texas City, Texas, passed peacefully, surrounded by those that loved him the most, on November 15, 2021. Kelly was born July 15, 1952, in Emporia, Kansas to Skip and Beth Stinson. He attended Texas City High School and graduated Class of 1969. After High School he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served as a Security Forces member. During his active duty he wore the rank E4 (Buck Sergeant) until his separation in 1973. At that time, he continued to serve in the Reserves where he used the skills learned as a Security Forces member to begin working for the Galveston County Sheriff’s Department. After the Sheriffs Dept he worked for Southwest Laboratories followed by Amoco Chemicals and finished his career at Monsanto/Sterling Chemicals where he retired as an Operator in 2006.

While at Sterling Chemicals he served on the Volunteer Fire Department and as an EMT. He used his EMT training as the “trainer” for his oldest daughter’s soccer team for many years. He thoroughly enjoyed the weekends spent on the soccer field with both of his daughters.

While at home you could always find Kelly in this garage/man cave working on many projects around the house or creating Christmas decorations while enjoying his favorite drink. Christmas was always celebrated BIG in his home. He loved making the holidays special for those around him and giving to those less fortunate.

Kelly was stubborn and ornery but loved deeply and would do anything for those closest to him. Although he only had 2 daughters, he became the father of many kids well into their adulthood. Kelly was a man of few words; however, he was always available to lend his advice, love, and support in abundance to his family and those he “adopted”.

Kelly had a green thumb and had a passion for gardening and keeping his yard immaculate. In typical Kelly style he would share his passion with others; there are many who will continue to have a little piece of him with the beautiful plants he provided to them.

Kelly had a love for the grill and could smoke a mean brisket. There were many early mornings spent putting briskets on the smoker for family gatherings or parties. He took pride in providing for his family and making sure they knew they were loved.

Kelly loved to travel with his wife and best friend, Kim. They went on many cruises, trips throughout the US. Some of his favorite travel destinations where St. Thomas, Key West, Nashville, and his favorite of all was Waikiki, Hawaii. While on vacation Kelly enjoyed the sun, sipping his favorite drink and meeting new people. They always made new friends wherever they traveled.

Kelly was not known for his patience, but he would patiently take “his bride” on her epic shopping trips. They would go every year to the Nutcracker Market, and he was a professional in carrying all treasures they would find.

The family wants to express their sincere appreciation to the wonderful nurses and staff at HCA Clear Lake Regional Hospital, Heart Tower, 3rd floor IMCU. The care, compassion and love did not go unnoticed and truly made a difficult time easier.

Kelly is survived by his wife of 32 years, Kim Stinson; his daughter Katy Stinson-Hollingshead and her husband Bill; his daughter Krystal Stinson; grandchildren; Austin Simmons, Justin Simmons, Drew Hollingshead and newest addition Kannon Stinson; Mother Beth Stinson; siblings and their spouses Terry and Becky Stinson, Kristie and Jerry Kleinhans; many nieces, nephews and friends that became family; and of course his beloved furry companions Marley, Jade, Mya, and Bailey who he loved dearly.  He is preceded in death by his Father Skip Stinson and brother Pat Stinson.

Funeral will be at Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City on November 20, 2021. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m., and the service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Per the family request please wear colorful shirts, Hawaiian style and flip flops are welcomed.
