Lydia Careaga was born August 30, 1953 in Galveston, Texas. She was raised in Galveston, and lived her adult life in La Marque, Texas City, and Dickinson. She went to be with the Lord, surrounded by family, on January 21, 2021.

Lydia was a kind and loving woman. She would encourage others to always do better, but most of all, she had a strong faith and a fighting spirit. Even though she was battling cancer for over 30 years, she traveled the world on numerous cruises, including visiting Barcelona, Spain, Mexico, Central America, the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, and more. Family and faith were the most important aspects of her life.

Lydia is preceded in death by her brother, Eddie Torres, and her parents, Fernando and Cecilia Torres. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Jorge L. Careaga, her son, Jorge L. Careaga Jr. and her daughter-in-law, Jennifer Careaga, grandchildren, James J., Alexia D., and Isabella E. Careaga, as well as her siblings, Fernando Torres and wife Rosa, Epifanio Torres, Rosa Tovar and husband Jesus, Teresa Garcia, and Martha Carrillo and husband Juan, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and godchildren.

Church services will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Texas City, Texas at 10:00 a.m., February 27, 2021. Burial services will be private due to current safety standards.
