William Anderson

William Covert Anderson, 67, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at home on Sunday, October 24, 2021. Bill was born in Abilene, TX, grew up and raised a family in Roswell, New Mexico, and recently resided in Sugar Land, Texas, for the past twenty- two years.  Bill graduated from Roswell High School and Southern Methodist University. He was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. Bill was Chaves County Commissioner, St. Andrew’s Senior Warden and Acolyte Sponsor, Chaves County Republican Chairman, Rotary President, Hondo Oil and Gas Employee of the Year, independent petroleum landman, and Senior Landman with Milagro Exploration.

Bill was an avid gardener, weather enthusiast, outdoorsman, journal writer, compassionate father and grandfather, dedicated husband, and devoted Episcopalian. He was a lifelong learner and exceptionally intelligent with a quick humor, easy-going attitude, and a smiling and welcoming demeanor. His kind soul inspired and impacted many. His love of the outdoors was unmatched. His passion for classic rock was shared with others.  He was a fantasy football guru and rally towel waving, radio listening Astros fan. He was the unofficial statistician for the Roswell High School football team and was his children’s personal coach for every athletic activity. He was commonly referred to as Chili, Billy Dillon, Andy, and Wild Bill. He fiercely and selflessly loved all, and his legacy will live on. He never let any condition overpower his joy of life. He faithfully led by example, never giving up his fight. His family and friends are saddened by his absence, but joyous in the understanding that he is now in the presence of the Lord.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Anna Ruth “Yonnie” and John Anderson; grandparents, Ruth and William Dahl and Sarah Virginia and John Anderson; father-in-law, Joseph Soper; cousin, Covert Anderson; and loyal companions, Tex, Morgan, and Duke.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Donna; son, John Anderson, and wife, Jennifer; daughter, Julia Burgess, and husband, John; son, Joseph Anderson, and wife, Megan; sister, Jenna Bing, and husband, Don; and 5 adoring grandchildren: Covert, Adell, Emery, Jenna, and Jack. Bill is also survived by his mother-in-law, Mary-Lou Soper; cousin, Kay Genua; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Pam and David Schwab, Marsha and Mark Soper, John Soper, and Andrea and Michael Soper, as well as several nieces and nephews.  Bill is survived by the family’s dearest friend Elizabeth Fleming Powell, her children and many more close friends. Their love for Bill was immeasurable, and the fond memories will be cherished for a lifetime.
